Adrian Smith joined Iron Maiden in 1981 in time to
record 'Killers'. Fellow guitarist Dave Murray was pleased with the new arrival as he had known Smith since he was at school. Smith was a very suitable replacement for Dennis Stratton and since
Adrian has proved himself as an all time great along with Dave Murray. He was born on Fevruary 27 1957 in Hackney, East London. His father was a painter and decorator and he was the youngest of 3
children. At the age of 15 Smith purcahsed his first album, Machine Head by Deep Purple.
Dave Murray was the first person to encourage Smith to start playing the guitar, soon after they were playing
together in bands. Smith was sure what he wanted to do when he was older and did not even stay at school to take his O-Levels (now GCSEs). Smith joined a band called Evil Ways, the band which
Murray played in for a while, before joining Maiden.
Adrian Smith recorded 6 albums with Maiden in the '80s before leaving in 1990 to pursue a solo career. Although his solo career was successful he
said that he missed Iron Maiden and that they would always be a part of him.
In 1999 he retured to Maiden along with Bruce Dickinson to record Brave New World, one of the greatest Maiden albums ever.
